DESICCANT BAGS pouches for container shipments
Humidity must be controlled for these foods to reach buyers in good condition. The moisture present when a container is loaded in a hot African port — in the air, the packing materials, and the bagged cargo — must be managed with container absorbers. Otherwise, during the voyage, when the weather changes and temperatures drop, this moisture condenses into liquid – "container rain," which can wet the cargo and trigger the growth of molds, mycotoxins or other micro-organisms. Organisms. This cycle can repeat itself during a sea voyage with each change of weather.
The Cocoa Trade
Federation (FCC) recommends using calcium chloride-based desiccants to protect
food cargoes such as cocoa beans. Container Dri® II is an absorber based on
calcium chloride. It offers high levels of moisture absorption, making it easy
to achieve the 65% or greater calcium chloride loading recommended in FCC
guidelines for shipping cocoa beans in containers.
Container Dri II can
absorb more than three times its weight in excess moisture. Under certain
conditions, Container Dri II can even absorb more than 400% of its weight in
moisture; the higher the humidity, the more aggressive the absorption:
Not all calcium
chloride-based absorbers are created equal.
Calcium chloride-based
desiccants vary widely in quality and absorbency. Clariant maximizes the
absorbency of Container Dri II cargo desiccants by using only high-purity
calcium chloride and a special gelling agent.
Container Dri II
configurations have been specially developed to meet the needs of African
shippers.
Container Dri II is
available in various configurations, such as a practical 250-gram chain with a
metal hook or a 1200-gram version with a metal hook, which have been specially
designed to meet the needs of African shippers. These configurations are more
economical to use for containerized goods. In addition, they are easy to
install; just hang the recommended amount inside the container.
Regardless of
configuration, when Container Dri II pouches are properly placed in a shipping
container, they absorb excess moisture and lock it in as a gel — inside a
leak-proof pocket. So even when the container temperature drops below the dew
point, harmful water droplets cannot form. Thus, the goods are protected until
they arrive at the buyer.
Container Dri II is
non-toxic, safe to use with food products and is recognized with the Britwrap EcoTain label due to its exceptional sustainability benefits.
CONTAINER DRI® II Dryers for Containers
Britwrap Container Dri
portfolio offers a broad line of DESICCANT
BAGS that enable versatile protection against moisture and water damage
during intermodal transportation. Available in bags, poles, and strips, these
industry-leading products absorb up to three times their weight in moisture,
trapping it as a thick gel that won't run or drip
DESICCANT BAGS
Our bentonite and
silica gel desiccant
bags, commonly known as
"absorbents," are highly active desiccants packed in porous materials
that effectively absorb moisture inside packaging or storage containers and
help protect packaged products from moisture damage.
